Every Monday night at the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, J-CHERRY hosts the ANYTHING GOES!” OPEN MIC. Signups begin at7:30pm. Performances start at 8:00pm.
Wednesday night, the “Evening Oasis” Belly Dance crew Presents – their annual fundraiser for The Buttonwood Tree!
Thursday night brings the Monthly Writers Out Loud Open Mic to the Buttonwood.

Friday night, The Buttonwood Tree welcomes Amandla, an original roots reggae ensemble featuring five internationally renowned reggae artists: YahKali, Ras Iba, Toussaint the Liberator, Tuff Lion, and Burnie T. 
Saturday brings the buttonwoods annual “Bloomsday” event celebrating James Joyce’s literary legacy. This year’s event is hosted by Abby Reynolds and features live music by Full Gael followed, by an Open Mic.
Food Not Bombs shares food about 1 pm in front of the Buttonwood Tree every Sunday. All are welcome to the meal and are also invited to help prepare the food at the First Church on Court Street at 11:30 am.
Later at 4pm on Sunday, the monthly Poetry Potluck gathering offers an opportunity for people who enjoy poetry to get together to share and discuss their favorite works. It isn’t an open mike.

Down in New Haven tonight at 7:30 pm you can catch some Belly Dancing w/ Uber Dami & Friends  at Café Nine. At 10pm the Nine Presents an Acoustic Open Mic w/ Miss Kriss.  Tuesday Night Café nine presents Les Rhinocéros, hailing from the Washington, DC area, the young band Les Rhinocéros delivers a crazy world in sound, blending aspects of rock, world music, noise, ambient and jazz. Wednesday night DIE HIPSTER PRESENTS “UNPUNKED” where local punk rockers show their chops on on acoustic instruments!! Thursday MANIC PRODUCTIONS and FISTFUL OF JOKES Present a night of comedy at café nine with Neil Hamburger, Duncan Trussell; and Dan Rice.  Friday night Sarah Lou Richards; w/ Mike Cliffordmake for an early set of night of Nashville twang at 6:30/. Later at 9:30 Christina Harris returns to New Haven and co-headlines a night of piano driven pop.

On Tuesday nights in Hartford, at Blackeyed Sally’s you can catch Mike Palin’s Other Orchestra, an 18 piece jazz ensemble.  Every wed at 8:30pm Sally’s hosts one of the longest running open blues jams in New England! This week’s session is hosted by Brandt Taylor.

Saturday night at the Outer Space in Hamden you can catch  Jug band revivalists Washboard Slim and the Blue Lights in a double bill with Americana sweethearts, Amalgamated Muck (including the Grammy-nominated Lauren Agnelli), for a night of local roots music.
Saturday morning at 11am you are invited to Join the Russell Library Knitters,

Tonight and Tomorrow, Cinestudio, the Trinity College cinema in Hartford, presents National Theatre Live’s production of FRANKENSTEIN. Weds through Friday, Cinestudio presents an incredible restoration of Marcel Carné’s film Les Enfants du Paradis which has been called by some, the greatest of all French movies.

Real Art Ways in Hartford has extended their run of the new Bob Marley Documentary, “Marley” through Thursday.
  Also showing through Thursday at Real Art Ways, you can catch “Pink Ribbons, Inc.” a feature documentary that shows how the devastating reality of breast cancer, which marketing experts have labeled a “dream cause,” becomes obfuscated by a shiny, pink story of success.
Tomorrow night the first season of Real Art Ways’ Science on Screen will come to a close with a screening of the classic 1944 American Film Noire:  Double Indemnity.
Friday night Real Art Ways continues their “Weekends Only” run of: “Lovecraft, Whisperer in Darkness”, written in 1931, H.P. At 9:30  Tom Gatzen delivers a 2 hr weekly does of loud and heavy music on Aaargh!!
From 11:30 – 1:00 Anvil Isle presents a musical monsoon of alternative rock, blues, dream, funk, hard rock, indie, punk, reggae, surf, and world music inviting you to bury your feet in the sand and hear the waves come crashing through your speakers.
From 1-3:00 Psychedelic Rick presents the late night Summer Concert Series featuring live concerts in their full glory. 
From 3-4am Maximum Rock and Roll Radio features an hour of international loud rock and punk.
The BBC World News Service kicks on at 4AM and we begin tomorrow’s broadcast at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.
