Tonight at Cafe Nine in New Haven, Milksop Unsung takes the stage for a night of Americana music. The power Jam banc Dirty Sanchez, plays the Nine Wednesday night. Thursday, the BLUE PLATE RADIO JAZZ SERIES Presents a The Doug Jones Group.  Friday Café Nine presents Thee Duke Robillard Band; w/ Paul Gabriel. Saturday The Nines Weekly Jazz Jam will be hosted by George Baker and Friends. Saturday night The Wagon takes the Cafe Nine stage.

Here in Middletown, Wednesday AT THE BUTTONWOOD TREE on Main Street, In honor of Women’s History Month, The Buddhist Faith Fellowship is offering a screening of the film “Blessings” at 7 pm at the Buttonwood tree. Blessings is narrated by Richard Gere, filmed in Tibet, tells the story of 3000 nuns living in the remote nomadic region of Nangchen in Eastern Tibet who practice an ancient yogic tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.  Friday night the Buttonwood hosts an Americana Double Bill: with North Carolina’s Humble Tripe and Southenr California’s Carolann Ames. Saturday night, The Lost Queen of New Orleans Soul, Singer Betty Harris and the Breaking News Band graces the Buttonwood stage for an 8pm show.  Every Sunday, Food Not Bombs shares food about 1 pm in front of the Buttonwood. All are welcome.  At 7:30 pm this Sunday Coming to the Mic is a monthly open mic that is filmed in its entirety to be aired on Comcast TV. More about all of these events online at www.buttonwood.org

This Saturday at 11am The Mac 650 Gallery in Middletown opens their gallery show, THE ART OF SPEED II open through March 31. This Sunday and occurring on the last Sunday each month at 10 am, Diane & Dave Downs perform their “Nouveau Croon” at Brew Bakers on Main St in Middletown.  The acoustic duet perform popular American music from the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60’s and into the 21st Century.

Now here’s what’s going on in the world of cinema in central Connecticut:
Tonight, Cinestudio, the Trinity College Cinema in Hartford, ends their run of a newly restored 35mm film print of the 1977 French Film: “The Devil, Probably”. Wednesday Cinestudio begins a run of:  Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy, the adaptation of the classic spy novel of Cold War deception and betrayal. Sunday Cinestudio begins a run of Pariah, the coming of age story of an African American lesbian girl in Brooklyn. www.cinestudio.org

Through Thursday this week, Real Art Ways in Hartford continues their run of the new animated film Chico and Rita, about two talented musicians who venture from Havana to New York, Paris, Hollywood and Las Vegas to unite in music and love.  Through Thursday, Real art Ways is also showing Bullhead, a drama set in the world of illegal bovine steroids and hormones and mafioso meat trade deals. Tomorrow (Tues) night Real Art Ways Science on Screen series presents Awakenings with Robert Deniro and Robin Williams with a Pre-film discussion with John Salamone, Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience at UConn. at 8pm, Michael Benson will sit in for Bill Revill as guest host of Acoustic Blender tonight presenting  an eclectic selection of Americana, country, folk, folk-rock, bluegrass, acoustic, blues, and other roots music.

at 930pm its Wonderland with DJ Cheshire Cat.  He’s got a song in his heart, a chemical imbalance in his head and a musical library at his fingers. From krautrock to post-rock, grunge to garage, novelty to New Romantic, punk to prog, Wonderland has a place for it and tonight he’s got an extra hour to work with!

at Midnight tonight Radical Roots with Euphonious Ewe and Pitbull Revolution Presents 2 hrs of  lo-fi music with a message. Folk, blues, punk, alt-country, and rollicking protest numbers; a mix of handed-down traditional favorites and brand new world-folk numbers.

at 3am City Spotlight with DJ B and DJ features the musical talents of a different city each episode. Highlighting the unique contributions of each locale, and spanning genres from jazz to punk rock.


The BBC World News Service kicks on at 4AM and we begin tomorrow’s broadcast at 5am with Morning Edition from NPR.
