Tonight at the Buttonwood Tree, Stacy Phillips and Paul Howard will perform their Grammy Award-winning Neo Urban Traditional music at 8PM. Saturday at 8 The John Funkhouser Trio will be playing all original music and Sunday at 4 it’s an afternoon Double Bill featuring EMILY HURD / ORICE JENKINS. Chicago-based songwriter and pianist, Emily Hurd, plays folk-pop songs that tell stories of old-fashioned love and its bittersweet triumph, and the Hartford jazz pianist ORICE JENKINS premiers his never-before-seen folk side. At Toad’s Place in New Haven, tonight The Kooks headline, with Morning Parade and Yawn also livening up the bill. And tonight, at Lilly’s Pad in Toad’s Place, AFTON presents a local showcase with eight bands, including — but not limited to — Sean O’Reilly, Century Old Stunners, The Condescending Foxes, The Blacksheep Collective, and Meet Emily. Tonight at Cafe Nine in New Haven, at Happy Hour, Christina Santore plays cover songs on banjo and at 9, Connecticut’s premiere women’s flat track roller derby league comes to the Cafe, and Bands and DJs will entertain. All proceeds go directly to CT roller girls league expenses.
NEXT Friday at the Kate, March 16th, The Small Town Concert Series presents a Tribute to the Grand Ole Opry: The Carter Family Years. Included are some classic Hank Williams and Jimmy Rodgers songs, thrown in for good measure. Amalgamated Muck performs, along with Clayton Allen, Paul Neri, Dana Takaki, and David “Bobo” Lavorgna. Now Here’s what’s going on in the world of cinema in central connecticut:
at Cinestudio, the Trinity College Cinema in Hartford, tonight through thursday is Pina, a Wim Wenders documentary of Pina Bausch’s dance company perform her works on the stage, and then follow as they dance on city streets, on trams, and in fields, mixing their glorious art with the pulse of everyday life. Friday through the weekend, catch the academy award winner Hugo, an animated film about is a 12-year-old orphan who secretly lives in a Paris railway station and befriends a mysterious toymaker, who turns out to be a forgotten pioneer of filmmaking, Georges Méliès.
This weekend at Real Art Ways in Hartford, catch animated film Chico and Rita, about two talented musicians who venture from Havana to New York, Paris, Hollywood and Las Vegas to unite in music and love.

it’s Free Speech Radio News from The Pacifica Network – An independently produced half hour daily national and international radio news program focusing on peace and social justice issues in the US and around the world. FSRN is collectively run by its workers and reporters.
At 6:30 until 7pm, listen in to The Middletown Youth Radio Project – A weekly radio program featuring the thoughts, voices, creativity and talent of the kids in the WESU neighborhood.
From 7pm to 8:30pm we have the Universal Sound Wave with Sistah Tee – Informing listeners about local and global issues with health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips, featuring a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues.
