Our Favorite Songs (401 – 410)
401. Vatos Tristes by Beach Goons
Year Released: 2018
Released On: Hoodratscumbags
Nominated by DJ Deja Vu of Late Nite Emo.
402. Gloria by Cadillacs
Year Released: 1956
Released On: Josie
Nominated by Joel from Queens who says: This is a classic original
403. Cheer Up (You Miserable Fuck) by David Ford
Year Released: 2005
Released On: I Sincerely Apologize For All the Trouble I’ve Caused
Nominated by Rob of Chocolate Cake who says: Ford is a songwriter who cuts to the bone. His lyrics are direct, articulate and passionate. His melodies draw you in. You know he means every word.
404. First Class by Rainbow Kitten Surprise
Year Released: 2013
Released On: Seven + Mary
Nominated by DJ Way of Wes Dissect who says: First Class was my most listened to song of the year for a reason. Sam Melo’s voice is emotional and raw as he begs his partner to love again. The repetition of verses coupled with increasing passion and vulnerability is captivating.
405. Rumors by Timex Social Club
Year Released: 1986
Released On: Vicious Rumors
Nominated by Rick Re:Action who says: I had a budget rap compilation on cassette as a kid with songs I can vaguely remember being on it. I listened to it a lot for a couple years too. I’m sure I have a fondness for a lot of those songs. I think, “King of Rock,” by Run DMC was on it. I think. I’m 100% sure Timex Social Club’s, “Rumors” ended both sides (the second side ending with an extended remix version). I used to fast forward through it. I didn’t understand the R&B-Rap Hip-Hop hybrid genius of it all until later on in life though at some point I did stop fast forwarding past the song even back then. “I’m a man who thinks. Not a man who drinks. So, please let me live my life,” became a mantra in my life as well.
406. Love You for a Long Time by Maggie Rogers
Year Released: 2019
Released On: Love you for a long time
Nominated by Sophie from Texas who says: Makes me feel cute
407. Power by Kanye West
Year Released: 2010
Released On: My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Nominated by Asher from Middletown who says: Kanye spent over 1000 hours on this one song and it shows. The production demonstrates his maximalist leanings on MBDTF to the fullest extent, with some of his most clever writing to boot. This song has a legacy far beyond what I can write at this point, I just had to pay respect to one of Kanye’s best.
408. I Don’t Need No Doctor by Humble Pie
Year Released: 1971
Released On: Performance Rockin’ the Fillmore
Nominated by Sir Jon of Pint O’ Comics who says: Humble Pie’s cover of Nick Ashford’s older R&B tune is a crashing, crushing cacophony of sound and vocals, thanks to the late, great Steve Marriott. It’s hard to even think that Ray Charles covered this song before Humble Pie bashed their version out to great acclaim.
409. I Only Want You by The Passions
Year Released: 1960
Released On: Audicon
Nominated by Larry of Moondog Matinee who says: Favorite early ’60’s group.
410. Pigs (Three Different Ones) by Pink Floyd
Year Released: 1977
Released On: Animals
Nominated by John in Murphysboro, Illinois who says: David Gilmour’s tour de force.
