Our Favorite Songs (321 – 330)
321. Release by Pearl Jam
Year Released: 1991
Released On: Ten
Nominated by Kara who says: Best song on the album, and got me through a lot of tough times in high school.
322. Revolution by Dennis Brown
Year Released: 1985
Released On: Brown Sugar
Nominated by Big Bent of Dub Revolution who says: One of the biggest tunes from one of most endeared reggae singers, the late great Dennis Brown. Trying to keep the peace during tough times, here’s one to cool down dance hall when things get too hot.
323. I Found Out by John Lennon
Year Released: 1970
Released On: Plastic Ono Band
Nominated by John in Murphysboro, Illinois who says: Lennon at his most raw and powerful. There ain’t no guru who can see through your eyes.
324. Memories of Green by Vangelis
Year Released: 1980
Released On: See You Later
Nominated by Felix from Sollentuna (Sweden) who says: Heartfelt spacey piano-piece. Famous from an equally heartfelt scene in “Blade Runner”.
325. Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House
Year Released: 1986
Released On: Crowded House
Nominated by Rob of Chocolate Cake who says: Neil Finn has written dozens of gems, releasing this one as Crowded House’s introduction to the world was both a blessing and a curse. A song with such stunning beauty simply was not going to be ignored, but everything that followed would be measured against it. This song’s gentle guitar strum and Hammond organ solo were a breath of fresh air an era where everything was overproduced.
326. The Only Living Boy in New York by Simon and Garfunkel
Year Released: 1970
Released On: Bridge Over Troubled Water
Nominated by Michael Benson of 75% Folk and Dj Treck of Wes Dissect.
327. Gone by Charli XCX, Christine and the Queens
Year Released: 2019
Released On: Charli
Nominated by DJ Lil Kugel of Isn’t Life Strange.
328. Everybody is a Star by Sly and The Family Stone
Year Released: 1976
Released On: Greatest Hits
Nominated by Cath from Buffalo who says: This CD was basically on a continuous loop in my car while my kids were growing up. They both love Sly because of it and one of my son’s friends thought this was the only CD I owned (as it was always on in the car).
329. Ain’t It Funny by Danny Brown
Year Released: 2016
Released On: Atrocity Exhibition
Nominated by Asher from Middletown who says: This isn’t a fun song. Between the disturbed lyrics of the absurdity in the suffering of drug addiction, the blaring horns, and warped almost-screaming backing vocals, Danny Brown brings one of the most surreal and panic-inducing experiences ever heard in rap, or just music. There still remains to be anything made like this. Despite its depraved nature (or maybe because of it), it remains something I keep coming back to.
330. Get By by Real Friends
Year Released: 2018
Released On: Composure
Nominated by DJ Deja Vu of Late Nite Emo.
