- Taking steps to make sure we’re all set
- Record Fair
- None of the high street venues will work b/c of parking
- Plausible to identify a non-conflicting May date in BEckham
- Redscroll has a record fair in May
- Record Shows of America the database for finding this out
- Can’t conflict with our last meeting of the year (election)
- Not the end of the world if we can’t make it happen — at some point let’s consider impact of a good/bad record fair in terms of longevity/vendor and patron relationships
- Exley would be a major challenge to do right
TRAINING:
- Written test was controversial in content and helpfulness
- This semester? Next semester?
- Training Size: will be more manageable this semester but a smaller number of people forces us to be less boring/regulate attention more
- Mini test questions based on the reading?
- Once the test is revamped we might work backwards and cover different portions of it
- Cap on training attendance? First come first served?
- Mini test questions based on the reading?
- Checklist for trainees and DJs for what is expected as far as education, practically (taking readings during shows, etc.)
- Adding a requisite meeting with a board member to talk about their show before they apply?
- Tack on to practical?
- Mandatory co-hosting during first semester?
- Partners during training? Student/CV pairs?
- Deadline to have solidified changes: nonexistent
- Gaspipe Networks/Dar Williams book: resources with references to WESU/brown radio history
Program:
- How do we push shows that are falling out of alignment with our mission to play more new music/add more nuanced discussion of the music, etc.?
- How do we stay on top of knowing which shows are doing a good job of this? (one person listening to shows consistently is not feasible)
- Should we send a “warning” email?
- Yes
- How can we frame suggestions in a non-threatening way while still maintaining our right to cut back on shows/time when shows refuse to abide by mission statement?
- We should make a list of specific shows
- What is the best way to regain more of a balance of CV/Student shows?
- Reserve certain hours?
- Late nights dedicated to students?
- Work towards specific ratio?
- Number value matters less than specific instances
- Cut back on syndication?
- CV waitlist?
- Reserve certain hours?
- Smoother transition between Fall and Spring Programs:
- Training ends earlier? (hard to do?)
- New DJs can’t get added to the schedule until Fall? Reserve opening for DJs returning from abroad or other circumstances
- Add an online-only option or requirement for newly trained DJs
- I made a new program guide which will help me (and future Program Directors) start the program scheduling earlier.
- Another goal is to have better block programming — putting common genres/show types together (there are a few downsides to this too, I think!)
- Reggae
- Experimental
- Late night talk-shows
- Give better feedback to new shows with specific criticism and compliments.
- Integrate one-on-one meeting about show proposal during training.
- Board members — listen to shows!
- Service hour opportunity for senior members of staff?
