446. Echoes by Pink Floyd
Year Released: 1971
Released On: Meddle
Nominated by Richard Class of 1985 and Rob of Chocolate Cake. Rob of Chocolate Cake says: The sound of a band firing on all cylinders. All four members contribute and give their best. A 23 minute epic that is a complete experience. I can remember late night walks as a teenager with friends at the local reservoir. This song was always the soundtrack. We referred to it as an “Echoes run”. Looking out over the water while Gilmour’s supernatural seagulls howled is a memory that is forever ingrained in my mind.
447. Reckoner by Radiohead
Year Released: 2007
Released On: In Rainbows
Nominated by DJ Way of Wes Dissect who says: The lyrics on this track are just barely discernible, but Thom Yorke’s voice is melodic and authentic. This song describes death and impermanence, but is “dedicated to all human beings””because its message is universal. While the percussion, guitar, and piano in this song are incredibly well done, in the end I’m just a sucker for a well-crafted string arrangement.
448. Wheel In Motion by Michael Cleary
Year Released: 2020
Released On: Last Man Standing
Nominated by Robbie of Homegrown who says: Michael Cleary played as frontman for a self named band who mostly plied covers- but who’s originals meshed so well that they never knew on the dance floor until they were told! Michael, on a hiatus from live performance, recorded this fabulous solo effort. Strong songs- well arranged and sung. His guitar work shines.
