Our Favorite Songs (261 – 270)
261. Miss K by Deer Tick

262. Mother and Child Reunion by Paul Simon
Year Released: 1972
Released On: Paul Simon
Nominated by The Gonch of Breakfast of Champions.
263. Rhinestone Eyes by Gorillaz
Year Released: 2010
Released On: Plastic Beach
Nominated by Asher from Middletown who says: This song is so good the chorus is just a synth line, and one of the best synth lines ever at that. Gorillaz are some of the best to do it, and they’re at their prime on this funk-infused ballad. The lyrics are bizarre but alluring, Damon Albarn sounds like he’s calling from a far far place to recount the story of this song. Impossible not to sing along when “that’s electric!” comes in.
264. S.O.S. by Abba
Year Released: 1975
Released On: Abba
Nominated by Rick Re:Action who says: Whatever happened to our love? It’s just such a relatable song about growing apart from someone you love(d). And the song is just executed flawlessly. Sure, it’s pop, but the weight it conveys… I feel it in my chest just thinking about it. Oh, and Th’ Faith Healers cover is pretty outstanding.
265. Watch The Signs by Frank Critelli
Year Released: 2010
Released On: The FCB EP
Nominated by Robbie of Homegrown who says: Frank always was, and remains, a formidable solo singer/songwriter. Definitely in the top 3 in CT. But this record was when he started to show his rockier side-with slashing guitar from Shandy Lawson and the solid rhythm section of Donny and drummer Rich Suarez providing ample backup. Frank currently performs in R=The Bargain.
266. Happy Anatomy by Duke Ellington
Year Released: 1959
Released On: Anatomy of a Murder
Nominated by Bill Denert of Evening Jazz who says: One of the great pieces from the greatest year of Jazz: 1959 and also a great movie starring Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak.
267. I Shall Be Released by The Band
Year Released: 1968
Released On: Music From Big Pink
Nominated by Cath from Buffalo who says: Although this is originally a Bob Dylan song, I love the way The Band sang it. It was such an important part of the concert/film “The Last Waltz”.
268. Superfly by Curtis Mayfield
Year Released: 1972
Released On: Superfly OST
Nominated by Fluccs Capacitor of Time Moves Slow who says: When a falsetto voice narrates the life of gangster and makes you feel like your there, the feeling is eerie and compelling – and has become a cinematic and musical template for the ages.
269. Dreamland by Bunny Wailer
Year Released: 1976
Released On: Blackheart Man
Nominated by Big Bent of Dub Revolution who says: One of the most beautiful reggae ballads ever, from the longest living (recently departed) of the original Wailers, Bunny Wailer. This song will take you to another place.
270. The Best in Me by Marvin Sapp
Year Released: 2010
Released On: Here I am
Nominated by Madman Donovan of Reggae Voyage who says: Spiritual encouragement of GOD saving Grace.
