Here’s a rundown of some of what’s happening in our area:
Tonight in Middletown the Canoe Club at Harbor Park presents the Sycamore Trio. Call (860) 347-9999 for more info.
Beginning at 6 pm this evening, MAC650 Art Gallery at 650 Main St in Middletown, there is an opening reception for the exhibition “The Art of Speed II”. The show hosts 80+ pieces from more than 40 custom culture artists from the US and as far away as Germany and Japan. Visit mac650.webs.com for more info.
And across the street at 8 o’clock The Buttonwood Tree hosts a night of poetry, music and improvisation with the words of poet John L. Stanizzi, paired with blues and jazz from Jim Mercik and percussionist Abu Alvin Carter Sr. Saturday, jazz pianist and composer Laszlo Gardony performs with his trio at 8 pm. Tonight at 7pm in Wesleyan’s Crowell Concert Hall, Spencer Hattendorf presents his senior thesis music recital entitled “Language Barrier”. Tonight and Saturday, Wesleyan Artist in Residence Hari Krishnan brings a night of South Indian dance and music to the CFA Hall, as performed by his students at Wesleyan and dancers from Mr. Krishnan’s dance company. A graduate music recital by Stephanie Choi entitled “Masil with Kayagum.” takes place in the World Music Hall On Saturday at 7 pm. Tonight in New Haven at Cafe Nine ASTERISK CONCERTS and MANIC PRODUCTIONS Present: Scott Kelly (of Neurosis) w/ Eugene Robinson (of Oxbow) • Saturday’s afternoon Jazz Jam will be hosted by the Mike Coppola Trio. Tonight and Saturday, Cinestudio, the Trinity College Cinema in Hartford, presents The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Sunday afternoon and continuing nightly through Wednesday, Cinestudio offers a run of Pina, written and directed by Wim Wenders. More information at www.cinestudio.org
Real Art Ways in Hartford continues a run of Crazy Horse, a documentary that peeks inside Paris’ Crazy Horse cabaret – the most famous nude dance show in the world. it’s Free Speech Radio News from The Pacifica Network – An independently produced half hour daily national and international radio news program focusing on peace and social justice issues in the US and around the world. FSRN is collectively run by its workers and reporters.
At 6:30 until 7pm, listen in to The Middletown Youth Radio Project – A weekly radio program featuring the thoughts, voices, creativity and talent of the kids in the WESU neighborhood.
From 7pm to 8:30pm we have the Universal Sound Wave with Sistah Tee – Informing listeners about local and global issues with health, nutrition, and stress reduction tips, featuring a wide range of music including African, reggae, gospel, R&B, Latin, and blues.
