Every Monday night in Middletown, J-Cherry hosts the “ANYTHING GOES!” OPEN MIC  AT THE BUTTONWOOD TREE on Main Street, with 7:30pm sign-up, 8:00pm start.  Wednesday In honor of Women’s History Month The Buddhist Faith Fellowship is offering a screening of the film “Blessings” at 7 pm at the Buttonwood tree. Blessings is narrated by Richard Gere, filmed in Tibet, tells the story of 3000 nuns living in the remote nomadic region of Nangchen in Eastern Tibet who practice an ancient yogic tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.  Friday night the Buttonwood hosts an Americana Double Bill: with North Carolina’s Humble Tripe and Southenr California’s Carolann Ames. Saturday night, The Lost Queen of New Orleans Soul, Singer Betty Harris and the Breaking News Band graces the Buttonwood stage for an 8pm show.  Every Sunday, Food Not Bombs shares food about 1 pm in front of the Buttonwood. All are welcome.  At 7:30 pm this Sunday Coming to the Mic is a monthly open mic that is filmed in its entirety to be aired on Comcast TV. More about all of these events online at www.buttonwood.org

This Saturday at 11am The Mac 650 Gallery in Middletown opens their gallery show, THE ART OF SPEED II open through March 31. Wednesday Cinestudio begins a run of:  Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy, the adaptation of the classic spy novel of Cold War deception and betrayal. Through Thursday this week, Real Art Ways in Hartford continues their run of the new animated film Chico and Rita, about two talented musicians who venture from Havana to New York, Paris, Hollywood and Las Vegas to unite in music and love.  Through Thursday, Real art Ways is also showing Bullhead, a drama set in the world of illegal bovine steroids and hormones and mafioso meat trade deals. Tomorrow (Tues) night Real Art Ways Science on Screen series presents Awakenings with Robert Deniro and Robin Williams with a Pre-film discussion with John Salamone, Professor of Behavioral Neuroscience at UConn.
