Tonight at the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, brings the Monthly Writers Out Loud Open Mic. Friday night, The Buttonwood welcomes Amandla, an original roots reggae ensemble featuring five internationally renowned reggae artists. Saturday brings the buttonwoods annual “Bloomsday” event celebrating James Joyce’s literary legacy. This year’s event is hosted by Abby Reynolds and features live music by Full Gael followed, by an Open Mic.
Food Not Bombs shares food about 1 pm in front of the Buttonwood Tree every Sunday. All are welcome to enjoy the meal and help prepare the food at the First Church on Court Street at 11:30 am.
Later at 4pm on Sunday, the monthly Poetry Potluck gathering offers an opportunity for people who enjoy poetry to get together to share and discuss their favorite works. It isn’t an open mike.

Down in New Haven tonight at Café Nine, MANIC PRODUCTIONS and FISTFUL OF JOKES Present a night of comedy with Neil Hamburger, Duncan Trussell; and Dan Rice. Friday night Sarah Lou Richards; w/ Mike Clifford make for an early set of, Nashville twang at 6:30/. Later at 9:30 Christina Harris returns to New Haven and co-headlines a night of piano driven pop. Friday night I East Hampton at the Higher Grounds Coffee House at 70 Main Street, it’s their weekly open mic. Show starts at 8PM. Every Saturday it’s a live local music at Higher Grounds.
Friday Night The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook presents Ollabelle, a New York based folk-roots-rock band that began playing gospel tunes in Manhattan’s Lower East Side following 9/11. More information can be found at thekate.org or by calling 860-388-3286.
Saturday night at the Outer Space in Hamden you can catch, Jug band revivalists Washboard Slim and the Blue Lights in a double bill with Americana sweethearts, Amalgamated Muck (including the Grammy-nominated Lauren Agnelli), for a night of local roots music.
Saturday morning at 11am you are invited to Join the Russell Library Knitters,

Our hats are off to the Twenty-Two Greater Middletown Special Olympics Athletes who competed at the 2012 Special Olympics Connecticut State Summer Games this past weekend of June 6-8. Real Art Ways in Hartford has extended their run of the new Bob Marley Documentary, “Marley” through Thursday.
Also showing through tomorrow evening at Real Art Ways, you can catch “Pink Ribbons, Inc.” a feature documentary that shows how the devastating reality of breast cancer, which marketing experts have labeled a “dream cause,” becomes obfuscated by a shiny, pink story of success.
Friday night Real Art Ways continues their “Weekends Only” run of: “Lovecraft, Whisperer in Darkness”, written in 1931, H.P.
