Board Meeting 9/30/19
- Open meeting
- Attendance
- Everyone here except Amy, Ben M.
- Unfinished Business / Committee Reports
- Record Fair
- FB event?
- Ask Amy when she gets here
- Second flyer?
- Also: Ask Amy when she gets here – but also whoever else can help would be welcome!
- Promos (I forget if we discussed this previously)
- Luke: there are 3 new ones and they are circulating right now
- FB event?
- PR
- Updates! We need FB event pages for each upcoming event we have scheduled.
- Also still need a press release announcing our new fall season 80 and 80 year celebration.
- Training
- Starting this Thursday (6-7 Thurs, 5-6 Sun (but this Sunday 430 because of staff meeting))
- Have ~40 people currently signed up to training
- This week: looking over training manual, mission statement, history of WESU, etc.
- Thurs: Jen & Carina can come; Sun: Gina & Dillon can probably come
- History listed on website (by Leith) > history in manual – trainees should read website version
- Training manual & written exam must be updated!
- Ex. History of station, code of conduct stuff (ex. Don’t burn things in the studio / station)
- May be good idea for Victoria to assign board members to specific training dates/make a Google sheet to coordinate it all
- Also internships & service hours: Victoria will send out info on this after first training session
- Program
- Program done! Need to be sent to print ASAP!
- A couple tweaks need to be done, then Ben S. will send to board, and then to printers very soon
- Executive Meetings
- 2 competing time slots
- 4:30pm Wednesdays vs 5:00pm Fridays
- Ben is only able to stay for half an hour on Wednesday, Friday might be the better option during Ben S and Dillon’s board hours?
- Carina hosts WWL 5:05-6:30 on Friday’s…
- 4:20 on Wednesday’s is when it will be! It is final! Yay
- 4:30pm Wednesdays vs 5:00pm Fridays
- 2 competing time slots
- (Board has retired to executive session to discuss unfinished business from last week’s board meeting…)
- Record Fair
- New Business
- Program
- Updates? How has it been going so far?
- “Homegrown celebration”
- Discussion on concept: A celebration of 80 years of DIY music art and culture at WESU?
- I.e. CT music, Wes music…
- So that we’re not focusing on/promoting one show so much… but we could still mention Homegrown show’s award (but we should not call it “Homegrown”)
- Possible name: “Connecticut Connected”
- Need to find a date and venue asap
- Date
- Fri Nov 8 or Fri Nov 15 (same weekend as Record Fair) are the 2 dates that Beckham is free
- Other option is to delay it til spring season (and it just wouldn’t be explicitly about 80th anniversary)
- Board has voted: we’re going to do this event in the spring, so we’d have much more time to plan and make it truly spectacular
- Possible date: Apr 18 (when we were considering doing record fair before decided on Apr 4th event)
- Venue
- Beckham is best option for this sort of event
- Also can do community center
- Date
- Possible acts: student band, ct indie band, ct troubadour (rnb singer) and perhaps one more band (maybe reggae?)
- Depending on setup, if we could potentially feature a song or two from guest musicians (like state troubadour) and singers between sets. If we do this 2 bands is likely enough.
- Discussion on concept: A celebration of 80 years of DIY music art and culture at WESU?
- Sunday staff meeting
- Staff Photo!
- Ben M is working on getting a university photographer.
- Currently have 5:30-5:40 call for a 5:45 photo
- Attendance will be kept
- Amy will cover on 10/6
- How can we make these more engaging for staff?
- Staff Photo!
- Personnel Matter Updates
- In terms of various code of conduct violations moving forward:
- We should consider keeping personnel files (i.e. “considering probation” list), and at board meetings, we can authorize warnings to specific people, and then move forward if necessary…
- There are a handful of people who simply disregard the rules, and as a board we should consider cracking down…
